For nearly the past 6 months, I’ve had a mixture of rice, sugar, and salt in a bowl on my desk to manifest money. While I haven’t become a millionaire, a few months ago, one of my articles on Medium got boosted and earned the most money I ever made on the platform. I haven’t wanted to dispose of the concoction as I’ve feared it could bring about bad luck, so it stays on my desk.

I also usually dress a green candle with oil, cinnamon, and a couple of other herbs and light it at the beginning of every new year to attract prosperity into my life. Furthermore, I sprinkle salt around the door to my home to ward off evil spirits.

What are African Traditional Religions?

All the rituals are a part of hoodoo, which is a spiritual tradition created by enslaved African Americans in the United States, inspired by Central and West African religious practices. Hoodoo practices include herbal healing, ancestor veneration, dancing, water immersion, sacred music, spirit possession, divination, and charms. Also, hoodoo is sometimes referred to by other names such as conjure or rootwork.
