The reasons lie in toxic masculinity and misogyny

For over the past fifty years, the Black community has been the most loyal voting bloc for the Democratic Party. That certainly is the case for me. I have never voted for a Republican in my life and don’t plan to.

Black people are still overwhelmingly Democratic; however, over the past few months, polls have shown that support for the Democratic party has eroded among Black men, particularly those under 50. Polls suggest that around 25% of Black men are now saying they plan to vote for Donald Trump.

Why do some Black men pledge allegiance to Donald Trump?

What would possess some Black men to vote for a man who has shown time and time again that he is a bigot? As far as Black people are concerned, to quote Chris Rock, voting for Donald Trump is akin to chickens voting for Colonel Sanders. For instance, Donald Trump recently accused Haitian immigrants, people who look like them, of eating pet cats and dogs. This is a common tactic from the racist playbook where oppressors cast marginalized people as evil or alien.

In another example, earlier this year, Trump had the audacity to liken his indictment on 91 felony charges to historical discrimination against Black people by saying, “…a lot of people…
