As I write this, the presidential election is more than two weeks away. As Election Day approaches, I become more anxious

Why Presidential Elections Cause Me Anxiety Now

Elections never used to cause me to come unglued. If my preferred candidate didn’t win, I’d be disappointed for a few days, but then I would go on about my life. 2016 changed that.

It’s not an exaggeration when I say that I still have trauma from 2016. While that election was close, we were told that the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton had a slight lead. On Election Day 2016, I arrived at the job I had at the time, expecting to have a routine day. I planned to cast my vote after I got off work as my state didn’t have early voting back then. Within a half hour of my arriving at work, the course of my life changed.

My manager and another manager called me into a conference room to say that my services would no longer be needed. Five minutes later, I went to my desk, retrieved my purse as well as my jacket, and walked out in a daze.
