Today’s morning text really made me think, do I value anything in life that is better than justice, truthfulness, self-control, courage. After a while of thinking I came to an answer. Yes, there is something I value more than those things, friends and family. But now the question now is, what can I do to “turn to it with all your (mine) heart and enjoy the supreme good that you have found.” I believe there are three steps in doing this. First, is to make sure I am close with my friends and family, building strong bonds and trust. Second, try to spend as much time with them. Third, have fun with them as I believe happiness to be another very important value.

Both the morning and midday text talk focus heavily on living life according to virtue, or living life according to one’s values. The stoics talk about how living life according to virtue is the best way to live because they believe that if you live by virtues, you will be good at everything else in life. However, because I prefer to (or now try to) live my live according to values, would it have the same out come? After another afternoon meditation I spent my time thinking about whether or not my day to day actions match my morals. As someone who believes that friends and family are the most important thing in life, I think I do spend a lot of my time enjoying and talking with them.

The evening text is seems very simplistic but is also very effective. If you want to get good at something, practise it, if you want to get rid of a habit, slowly try to minimalism it.
