Gazing Out the Window

Gazing out the window,
The Sun says goodbye.
The cuckoo sings away to glory,
Signaling the evening is to arrive.

That’s the thing about sunsets,
They make you ponder about life.
You think where life is taking you,
Amidst uncertain times.

As the evening unfolds you think,
What tomorrow may bring.
A new hope or a surprise,
That adds a bit of colour to your life.

The festival of Holi ends,
With gloom rather than joy.
You hope that the coming months will be different,
And that thought brings a smile.

But then you return to reality,
And realise this rut you’re in.
Closed walls and streets are dark,
With not a soul visible.

Eight p.m. seems like night twelve,
And the silence seems eerie.
In a city that never sleeps,
Where hustle and bustle seems cheery.

Now this is the new normal,
Saying this leaves a bitter taste.
We want to drop the word new,
And wish old normal would make haste.

Gazing out the window,
Knowing that it’s time to sleep.
Awaiting tomorrow with a new hope,
Although knowing everything will be exactly as yesterday’s routine.

These are dark times, there is no denying,
Like said in Harry Potter,
Waiting for a spell like ‘Expecto Patronum’,
To shine light and kill the pandemic dementors.

Goodnight, sleep tight,
And let’s pray that tomorrow’s sun brings in warmth.
Of the much-needed healing,
That everyone is craving for.

Stay positive, and test negative and keep loved ones safe.
Till then let’s hope and work towards a better tomorrow,
With you and me loving each other,
And spreading smiles by sharing our life’s tales.
