My Guiding Light
A Poem
Be it anger, love, or fear,
We all have something that grounds us,
A mantra, a hymn, a system,
Something to lead us back to wisdom.
The night sky is full of stars,
And the streets full of lights,
But to see your guiding light,
You need more than sight.
I tried to follow the signs,
But no one was there to warn me,
Of the truth behind those white lines.
If you go too fast,
You end up getting a fine.
Better to lose my way,
Better to go off the rails,
If it means finding my guiding light,
And with it, the right path.
Yesterday I thought it was in me,
The compass of my life tree.
So I started a writing spree
Until I found the master key.
Today I know it’s you,
The family, the friends, the strangers,
The lovers,
The people,
The strength behind my scribbles.
My guiding light.
