The Text That Never Came

A poem

Photo by Pradamas Gifarry on Unsplash

You took my number,
And I hoped you would text.
Maybe not immediately,
But before the day ends.

I waited patiently,
Like the tiger waits for its prey.
Only to realise I was the prey,
As my heart was tearing apart.

You may have changed your mind,
Or another woman was the cause.
You may have been in trouble,
Or I was just another option.
You won but my hope lost.

It’s strange how I still hope,
Your text will arrive.
I pride my heart for its optimism.
Soon this too will die,
Like your memory from my mind.

Thanks so much for your time!
