Living with 4kW per day in 2023

In today’s world, where climate change is evident in our everyday lives, reducing our energy consumption is becoming so important, and this challenge of living with 4kWh of energy makes me reconsider some small actions, such as washing clothes. Doing some research I found some practical tips for efficiently washing clothes, some of which are:

- Wash Full Loads
Washing a full load of laundry is more energy-efficient than washing in smaller loads. That is why for this week I decided to wash only 1 time per week in 2 full loads, one for black clothes and the other one for color clothes. It helps to reduce the number of cycles required to get through your laundry, saving both water and energy.

- Use Shorter Wash Cycles
Deciding the right cycle depending on the amount of clothes is important. My washing machine offers various wash cycle options, for this week I used the full load so I used a mixed cycle but I also noticed that could be possible to use a fast cycle for small things, just as the kitchen rags or lightly soiled items.

- Choose the Right Water Temperature
This week I washed with warm water because I read that in most cases, washing laundry in cold or warm water is perfectly adequate, and hot water consumes more energy.

- Invest in Efficient Detergents
Also using high-efficiency detergents specifically designed for modern washers can help reduce energy consumption. Those detergents produce fewer suds, which means less water is needed to rinse clothes, and they work effectively in lower water temperatures.

Following these simple tips and incorporating these small energy-saving practices into our weekly laundry routine, we can reduce our climate change impact and live with more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle. That’s why I’ll continue doing these laundry energy-savers routines, because in the end my clothes were clean, smelled delicious and the washing time was faster.
