Living with 4kW per day challenge #day0
For the next two weeks or ten days, I will try to live with an energy consumption of less than 4 kw per day. I am very aware that I am not usually very conscious about saving energy, and the flat I have been renting since September this year includes the cost of utilities in the rent, so I have been even less proactive about saving energy. So when I heard about this challenge, I wasn’t sure if I could do it, but I’m going to give it a go anyway.
To find out how much energy I use in a day, I first picked up the electrical appliances I use and summarised the energy consumption for each of them or for each time of use.
I’m not used to calculating electricity, so please don’t mind that the units in the table are a bit weird, but as the professor said, 6–7 kWh for the average daily energy consumption per day applies to me too (and it was a bit over).
The breakdown shows that the hot water tank takes about half of my energy usage. If this consumption could be reduced, there would be considerable energy savings, so it is worth trying to reduce it. Gas use also consumes a lot of energy, so it seems a good idea to try cooking without using the fire as much.
I will start thinking about concrete ways to do for next days.
