“One step at a time”
Since I live on the fifth floor of my building, I decided to use the stairs instead of the hydraulic elevator for 4 people, which consumes between 7.5 KW/hour and 10 KW/hour of electricity. The elevator only consumes energy when it goes up, as it uses the weight of the cabin when it goes down without the intervention of the hydraulic system.
I thought that by using the stairs, I could save some energy. However, the stairs turned out to be a never-ending path that seemed to go on forever. Every step felt like a burden, and my backpack weighed me down with my laptop, food containers, and coats. Every rung reminded me of our dependence on everyday machinery. However, this is something that can be changed. In the end, I arrived at my door with more satisfaction than if I had used the elevator.
