Energy Consumption Challenge 2
Introduction
This is a 14-day energy-saving challenge. Every three to four days life patterns, learn an energy-saving tip and replace the original activity with a more energy-efficient one. Over time, this will lead to a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.
Day 7–10 (Sep 22— Sep 25)
From this week onwards, I have started the habit of leaving electronics and appliances unplugged when they are not in use because while some electronics can prevent further charging when they reach their maximum capacity, unplugging them avoids wasting energy by leaving them unplugged when they are not in use. I easily forget this tip on the second day of the first day and I forget to unplug the coffee machine every time I finish using it. But on the third and fourth day, I started to get used to this technique and switching off the power was gradually replaced by unplugging.
Day 11–14 (Sep 26 — Sep 29)
Towards the end of the challenge, I thought carefully about the fact that one person consumes too much energy, and if the amount for one person was distributed over several people, wouldn’t that be considered a way to save energy? So I started inviting my neighbors to cook with me. They are also students at the Politecnico di Milano, so we eat at basically the same time. There are four of us together, and we only use the induction hob twice a day, so the average energy consumption per person is much less than if I were alone.
Conclusion
In fact, there are many opportunities to save energy in our daily lives, whether through personal habits or by building communication between neighbours, we can all contribute to saving energy.
