One month ago, I wrote a LinkedIn post about activation. My post got 117 likes and was viewed by more than 13.000 people. What a reach, huh? Facebook go home. But how do you then go from LinkedIn-novice to LinkedIn-guru? Well, don’t you worry — we’ve got you covered! 👇

Back in 2003 when LinkedIn was launched, it was primarily used for job hunting. A lot has changed since then. Today, it is extensively used for networking and personal branding.

Yup, change is coming! And you should not only “go with the flow” but set the tone on LinkedIn. And to do that, we’ve made 10 tips 👇

1. Make a LinkedIn-strategy

We know, strategies may sound like something only reserved for business people. But making a LinkedIn-strategy can be exactly what makes you stand out. Namely because it gives you direction. A good LinkedIn-strategy should include:

Goal: what do you want to achieve? Do you want to get more connections? Do you want to be more engaged? Or?

How: do you then want to achieve this? Do you connect with everybody, or only a chosen few? Do you write more updates yourself? Or what?

2. Have a professional current photo

Nothing says “unprofessional” like a picture with you in a bikini or with a beer in your hand. It’s fine for Facebook and Tinder, but not LinkedIn. 😞 Think about which photo you choose. If you’re very artistic a stiff black/white photo may not be your best choice. So, choose wisely, my man 👊

3. Fill out every single part of your profile

And we mean everything. Your experience, your current job, your education, your volunteer work, your courses, your skills. You get the point 😅

4. Make a creative headline

The headline (and your photo) is your chance to make a good first impression. Include relevant industry keywords in your headline. This will bump up your profile in searches done by recruiters. #Notbad 👍

5. Make a goo-oood summary

The summary is where you go all out. It’s where you show your true colors, what you dream of, want to accomplish, and how you want to get there. Oh, and don’t just state your name, age, and education. Make it interesting🌈

6. Have a personalized background photo

Choose a good background photo that leaves your visitors with a sense of who you are and what you believe in, like here. Having a background photo will make you stand out from the crowd, and it’s a good way to express yourself. #Winwin ✌️

7. Comment, like, share, endorse — engagement is king!

If you truly want to be a LinkedIn-guru you need to be active. Join groups that have your interest. Comment on posts. Like posts. Make your own. And endorse other peoples skills. The more involved you become, the more reach you’ll get. And the more value you add to your network, the happier they’ll be about you. And you know. Happy network, happy life 👇

35 percent of professionals say that a casual LinkedIn interaction led to a business opportunity.

8. Customize your URL

It is what it is. Not sure how to? Here you go 👇

On your profile click “Rediger offentlig profil og URL” or the language equivalent, and you’re good to go! 😏

9. Add recommendations

Already have a couple of recommendations in the bag? Well, move them to LinkedIn and in the future: have your boss recommend you on LinkedIn AND in paper. Also, have co-workers, business partners and the like recommend you too — it all counts 👌

10. Add a second language

Are you studying something in a foreign language? Or are you just interested in working/studying abroad? Then it’s a good idea to add a second language, like English.

“Tilføj et andet sprog” this means: add another language. So you just hit it, and there you have it ✌️ Now go on and fill out every part of your profile in your chosen second language 😄

If you do all of the above you will become an LinkedIn-guru and inspiration to others.

Are we missing anything? Please let us now 🙌 👇
