Hotel of the Month January 2019
What do you do when you achieve your goal? You set the next one of course. For Villa Rosa Kempinski, 2018 was a remarkable year in learning with many accolades. Now, they’ve started the new year with a bang as Lobster Ink’s Hotel of the Month by completing 1029 subjects with an average score of 85%.
This fantastic achievement is the result of smart planning and a healthy competitive drive to continually raise the bar. Taking advantage of a quieter January, People Training Manager, Nancy Magara, encouraged her teams to refresh their skills as a way to stay abreast of industry trends and consistently exceed their Guests’ expectations.
Kempinski Villa Rosa learners devote a lot of time and effort to completing their assignments. This is facilitated by leadership from day one. Learners are made aware of the importance of learning, and the expectations surrounding it, by their managers who also ensure that adequate facilities are provided and dedicated time is scheduled. This personalized approach allows both managers and learners to address any knowledge gaps timeously while building the confidence of every colleague.

Support in terms of the equipment required, for example having a conducive learning environment with computers and internet provided. Support also in terms of time. Kempinski knows that when learners succeed, they all do. Data from regular audits and checklists, in combination with Guest and Manager feedback, allows Nancy and her team to identify and celebrate top performers. Learners who have excelled on Lobster Ink receive incentives, are celebrated in town hall meetings and their stories are shared to inspire their colleagues. And this month they definitely have plenty to celebrate.
