McLeodganj has a very special place in my heart, especially because I did my Vipassana from there. The positive energy in the small hilltop town can’t be missed along with its vocal political sentiment. While these aspects make McLeodganj, a unique example of Indo-Tibetan culture, there’s one more aspect that is woven closely into it’s fabric — food. From the Tingmo stalls peppered across the town, to small cafes with amazing views, McLeodganj is a delight for a foodie.

There’s one food place that stands out to me in all this though — Kalimpong Momo Place. Placed just at the ascend from Centre Point towards Dharamkot, Kalimpong Momos can be easily missed. It’s this extremely congested place with 4 small tables. Not the perfect place you would want to eat in, at McLeod. It doesn’t have any spectacular view or relaxed seating. But you know what? And I’m saying this having grown up in northeast India and have eaten Momos across the country — you get India’s best mutton momos here. No kidding.

Kalimpong Momos At McLeodganj

The mutton momos here are generously stuffed with fresh, well-minced mutton, but the best part is when you bite into it. You can feel a juicy burst, and that just warms your heart. The two chutneys that the provide along with the momos just make life even better.

They don’t serve non veg momos on Tuesdays and Thursdays (if I remember right), so you might want to skip these days. The chowmein on the menu is also good, but if you go here — mutton momos are the best.

Price — INR 75 for a plate
