Sponsoring QGIS

I’m happy to announce that Spatial Networks has become a 2019–2020 Silver Sponsor for the QGIS project. While QGIS has always been an important tool for us, it has become increasingly more so as our data-as-a-service business, Foresight, has grown.

QGIS plays a key role in the quality assurance, fusion, analysis, and dissemination of our data and analytical products. While we use a mix of open-source and proprietary tools in our business, QGIS is our desktop GIS of choice, where we do our most significant data analysis and from which we derive significant value. This value moved us to sponsor.

As a Mac shop, the availability of a sophisticated, high-quality, powerful desktop GIS that runs natively on MacOS is important to us. QGIS fits that bill and more. With its powerful native capability and its rich third-party extension ecosystem, QGIS provides a toolset that would cause some proprietary software, between core applications and the add-on extensions needed to replicate the full power of QGIS, to cost well more than a QGIS sponsorship.

A recent tweet by Anita Graser, QGIS PSC member, summed it up perfectly:

If you read Anita’s tweet and realize that it describes you, too, then we hope you will join us in sponsoring the QGIS project to ensure that it continues well into the future.
