After “R. Bharat”, Republic TV launches 3rd channel, “R. Taapsee” exclusively for Taapsee-related news
After the monumental success of its first two channels, Republic TV and R. Bharat, the Arnab Goswami-led Republic network has now launched its third channel, R. Taapsee which would cater exclusively to news centred on actress Taapsee Pannu.
Speaking at the launch, Goswami stated that the sheer volume of Taapsee-related news covered by Republic had prompted the management to decide on creating a dedicated channel for it.
“We’re still working the details of all the programmes out — but the flagship Prime Time show is going to be called ‘The befitting reply’, which will feature an extensive, no-holds-barred debate on Taapsee’s befitting reply of the day,” the boisterous anchor announced. According to the former Times Now editor-in-chief, the channel was initially meant to be called ‘Taapublic’, but was later changed to “R. Taapsee”.
“Also, every now and then, whenever Taapsee is on a holiday, we will have a variant of the show, called ‘The befitting auto-reply’ where we will exclusively highlight her savage out-of-office responses to troll emails,” Goswami added. The ‘voice of the nation’ also mentioned that other ideas for the channel’s program catalogue included ‘the savage troll-slayer’, which would showcase Taapsee’s replies that are ‘savage’, but not quite in the ‘befitting reply’ category.
The move has already begun to draw sharp criticism, most notably from Goswami’s former employers, the Times group. “Dude, they’re trying our Times Now — Mirror Now strategy i.e. Republic and Republic Bharat to do all the Modi bhakti and Republic Taapsee to be all secular and liberal. I’m pretty sure their next channel is going to be Republic Tara. This strategy didn’t really work for us and it won’t work for him either. But who cares? Good for us!” exclaimed a delighted Vineet Jain.
According to sources at the Republic network, Goswami has already come out with an advance 50-day viewership success graphic. “R. TAAPSEE IS YOUR TOP SEE!” the caption below the graph is supposed to read.
