A couple of days after going on a bizarre unprecedented tirade against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami has spilled the beans on the real reason behind it — a last-ditch effort to mend fences with BJP MP Dr. Subramanian Swamy, who publicly chastised the anchor in nasty no-holds-barred debate, nearly 6 years ago.

“Ever since Liar-gate occurred, I’ve been trying my best to patch up with Dr. Swamy, but that simply hasn’t happened. The closest I’ve managed, is him making appearances on my channel and talking to Prema Sridevi and others — but he still won’t talk to me. Even my own wife has no choice but to forgive me when I put her off, but boy, oh boy, hell hath no fury like Dr. Swamy scorned,” the boisterous anchor revealed to The UnReal Times political correspondent Rajniti Sarkarwala.

“I’ve tried everything possible and impossible to make peace with him — accepting my Hindu ancestry in a sworn affidavit, humiliating random maulanas on my show, tearing random Pakistanis apart, suffixing my channel name with ‘TV’, since he didn’t like it; heck, I’ve even conspicuously avoided interviewing any Finance Minister in recent times! But absolutely nothing has worked. So there was only one way out — to take the one, the only Sonia Gandhi, head on! If this doesn’t make Dr. Swamy forgive me, nothing ever will. THE NATION WANTS TO KNOW, DR. SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY — WILL YOU FORGIVE ME?!” a worried Goswami pleaded.

According to the most-viewed anchor, the former Harvard professor is likely to come around after this move, at least. “He has made peace with none other than Superstar Rajinikanth. After threatening to play spoilsport if the superstar were inducted into the BJP, to calling him illiterate and so on, he stood by and continues to stand by the superstar after the recent post-Thuglak event attack on him. So I’m hopeful that when the time comes, he will back me too,” the former Times Now editor-in-chief expressed.

Goswami has already received support from actor Viveik Oberoi and singer Arijit Singh, who empathised with him, stating that they know exactly how it feels to not be forgiven for things even after years.
