Following widespread outrage and criticism over music (de)composer Tanishk Bagchi’s reprised version of AR Rahman’s Masakkali from Delhi-6, music (re)producer Pritam Chakraborty has come to the former’s defence.

“Tanishk is free to remake any of my chartbusters if he wants to. Most tunes aren’t mine anyway,” winked the bespectacled musician. Music director Himesh Reshammiya, however, had a different take. “It’s precisely for this reason that I decided to safeguard all my beautiful compositions with my voice — my voice ensured that those compositions, no matter how beautiful, aren’t worth being remade by others. Even the one which did get remade, ensured that it had my voice!” the singer-composer added.

Tanishk on his part, has claimed that he isn’t as bad as people make him out to be. “Yaar, there are people who’re unofficially remaking foreign songs. I’m at least remaking songs by Indian composers and that too, officially. Show me a musician who’s a bigger desh-bhakt than me!” the youngster cried.

According to sources, Tanishk is all set to collaborate with actress-singer Shruti Haasan on a remake of AR Rahman’s “Latka Dikha Diya” from the 90s Kamal Haasan-starrer Hindustani. Tanishk was apparently very impressed with Shruti’s recent murdering..err..rendering of her father’s classic, “Thenpaandi Cheemayile” and felt that they could work murders..err..wonders together.

Director Ram Gopal Varma too, spoke in favor of Tanishk, stating that everyone is allowed an Aag. RGV also went to the extent of stating that whenever he decides to make Aag again, he would definitely request Tanishk to re-remake Masakali.

The controversy around him, however, does not seem to die down. Rumours are now rife that noted jewellery brand, Tanishq jewellers are now planning to rebrand themselves under a new name. “Dude, we don’t want people thinking that we remake and spoil jewellery from others!” exclaimed CEO Ajoy Chawla.
