All you need to know about LockTrip Referral Links
We have recently encountered frequent questions about our referral links and how they work exactly. Today we want to share a quick summary.

1. Basic information
LockTrip Referral links are valid for 30 days. When a person clicks on your link, a cookie gets installed automatically on their browser that lasts for 30 days. When the same person signs up within 30 days on the marketplace, the referral will count.
However there is one limit to this. The referral needs to sign up through the same browser that the cookie was installed on. If they click on your referral link on their mobile device and they sign up through their desktop without clicking on your link again, there is no way for us to assign the referral.
2. Getting your own referral link
There are just two steps between you and your referral link. The first one is to sign up on our marketplace. After logging in, you will be able to find your link under the “affiliate” section of your dashboard.
3. Generating your custom referral link
Your default referral link has the form of
https://beta.locktrip.com/?refId=xxxx
with “xxxx” being your affiliate ID. You are not restricted to this default link though. Any link on our marketplace can be turned into a referral link by adding ?refId=xxxx at the end.
For Example:
https://beta.locktrip.com/search/hotels/austria/vienna?region=5ddcf0f76ddc0032 ….. %2Cdesc&nat=-1
can be turned into a referral link by adding ?refId=xxxx to it.

3. Verifying that the link works
If you feel unsure or want to verify that the link works, you can do this by checking your cookies. Simply follow this step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Log out of the marketplace and go to the main page
Step 2: Delete referral cookies
Make sure there is no referralId cookie installed by following the structure in the screenshot. If you can’t find it, there is no cookie installed at the moment. In that case simply proceed below.
Step 3: Close the marketplace and open it again through the referral link your want to test.
Step 4: Check if the cookie has been installed by following the path described in step 2.
The content should show your affiliate ID, which validates that your referral link works properly.
4. Formats of the referral link
The referral link works regardless of the format. Shortening it or transforming it into a QR code does not change the functionality. This can be verified through the same technique as described above.
