New Design gets Approved by our Community
Now we want to share the voting results with you and outline how we will be proceeding.
We asked our community to rate the new design from 0 to 10 and the results were very encouraging. The vast majority rated between 7 and 10 points, with an average score of 8.6/10.
This exceeded our expectations (radical changes often produce counter-reactions at first sight).
When it comes to the navigation setup, we had a similar result with an average score of 8.5/10. This includes the switch between the “Hotels” and “Flights” sections as well as the navigation within your profile.
Another important question was the selection of color. This will have a significant impact on our brand recognition.
The majority of our community preferred the blue version over the orange one. Taking into account that orange was also the color of people who do not feel comfortable with change (regardless of the color), the decision seems to be strongly in favor of blue.
There was a notable share of feedback asking for slightly more contrast on the blue version. We have created a few more versions with deeper blues in order to evaluate them. In the process, some darker blue tones started to look familiar to the brand color of booking.com, which is why we will deploy the original version first. The exact tone will then be iterated through A/B testing methods as our platform matures.
We have already completed the final draft of the remaining pages, which were not ready at the time of announcement (e.g. affiliate tab, profile and additional templates).
The process of coding and implementation has been initiated too. Due to the high priority of the UI, we decided to switch to an accelerated strategy for the implementation. We are building a separate server, which will be used for the UI development only and allow us to do work in parallel to the rest of the marketplace development.
This way, QA related processes will become the focal point of our UI development and thus make it easy to quickly react and adjust without affecting the heavy lifting (more complex) tasks of the remaining team.
Speaking of a timeline, we expect to be ready with the deployment at the end of this month.
