Celeste felt anxiety rise up in her stomach as she heard her father and mother’s argument escalating in the room next door.

Celeste didn’t like when her parents fought. It scared her.

Suddenly, Celeste felt something brush up against her. Bold and silent, Brandy, her lion, came and lay beside her. No one else could see Brandy, but he would appear when Celeste felt most afraid.

Celeste ran her fingers through the silky mane and down and across his soft, wide nose. Gentle and strong, Brandy’s presence calmed her. Brandy was Celeste’s valiant protector and would never leave her side.
