“Pretty sure whatever it is you’re looking for, darlin’, you’re not going to find it at the bottom of a bottle”, the barmaid, Beatrice, said as she wiped down the old oak bar.

John knew she was right. But whiskey was all he had to relieve himself of the pain caused by the loneliness shrouding his hardened heart.

Such was the life of a cowboy, he guessed.

“Spare me the lecture, sweetheart”, John grunted.

“Suit yourself but I’m not picking your sorry ass up off the floor”, Beatrice retorted and left him to his drink with only misery for company.
