The staff at the care home referred to them affectionately as the gossip circle.

The ladies loved nothing more than to have a confab as they knitted.

Ethel had heard a particularly juicy titbit that morning and was eager to share with her girls.

“Nurse Daisy and that young lad that volunteers every other Friday are seeing each other”, she revealed, working an elaborate knit stitch.

The other ladies gasped.

“But I thought she was married!” Ingrid exclaimed, dropping needles.

“Recently divorced, I heard”, chunnered Polly.

The ladies tutted before moving to the next scandal.

“Someone stole Willy’s hearing aids!”
