Gilded Prison: The Illusion of Utopia
Not all that glitters is gold
A Drabble is a 100-word short fictional story. You’ve got to ramble with words and form a nice, intriguing plot.
Word of the day: Utopia
The sky shimmered with hues of lavender and gold as Diana strolled through the beautiful garden.
“Isn’t this place a utopia?” she asked, turning to her buddy, Leander.
He chuckled, shaking his head. “Looks can be deceiving, Diana.”
Confused, she glanced around at the blooming flowers and dancing butterflies. “What do you mean?”
Leander pointed to a hidden camera among the roses. “Perfect gardens don’t need surveillance. We’re being watched.”
Her heart sank as she realised the truth.
This wasn’t the idyll she thought it was. The garden’s beauty masked an underlying control, and their freedom came at a price.
The story is inspired by CJ Coop's drabble drop challenge and its associated word, “utopia.”
