DRABBLE DROP | FICTION | LODESTAR GAZETTE
The AC Apocalypse
Humour amidst the heat
A Drabble is a 100-word short fictional story. You’ve got to ramble with words and form a nice, intriguing plot.
Word of the day: Peeved
In the heart of summer, with the sun blazing high, Mara found herself peeved as she stared at the broken air conditioner.
“Great, just what we needed,” she muttered, wiping sweat from her forehead.
Her husband, Colin, walked in with a grin. “Hey, look on the bright side, honey. It’s like a tropical vacation right in our living room!”
Mara shot him a mock glare.
“Oh sure, a vacation where we sweat buckets and dream of icebergs.”
He replied, “Well, we could always camp out in the freezer aisle at the supermarket. It’s the closest thing to Antarctica around here!”
The story is inspired by Jessica's Quill drabble drop challenge and its associated word, “peeved.”
