DRABBLE DRABBLE DROP | FICTION | LODESTAR GAZETTE
The Weekend Rescue
Love’s intervention in stress
A Drabble is a 100-word short fictional story. You’ve got to ramble with words and form a nice, intriguing plot.
Word of the day: Burnout
“You need a break, Candice,” Luke said, concern etched on his face.
She sighed, staring at her screen. “I can’t. There’s too much to do.”
“Burnout won’t help you finish faster,” Luke insisted. “Remember the last time?”
Candice glanced at him, her eyes weary. “I don’t have a choice.”
Suddenly, he pulled out two plane tickets. “Surprise! We’re going to the mountains this weekend. No laptops, no emails. Just us.”
Candice’s eyes widened in surprise. “You did this for me?”
“For us,” Luke corrected with a smile. “We both need it.”
She finally smiled back, feeling a glimmer of hope.
The drabble is inspired by CJ Coop's drabble drop challenge and its associated word “burnout.”
