Speed up your website by optimizing your images

Have you ever let run Google Pagespeed Insights over your Shopify online shop? I guess that is the reason why you landed on this blog post. I did the same and it showed me the following red flags that could or rather should be improved. The one we will focus on is Properly size images.

Google PageSpeed Insights | Source: Own Screenshot.

How many seconds (estimated savings) have it been for your online shop? 1 second, 2 or even more than 3 seconds? If you click on the field Properly size images it will open all improvable images below. You can then see the potential savings and the current resource size.

This field shows you how much you can still save and for which images.

In this blog post, I am going to show you how the bluely highlighted opportunity Properly size images can be improved. I encountered the error often and with many websites. A couple of years ago I still cut the images in different and suitable sizes and tried to resolve it manually. I had the problem that some images were still not perfectly adapted for various devices. So, actually, I am really happy that there is now this solution and that I found it. First of all, there is a free and a premium version. It is super easy to use and now let’s see how you can speed up your page by optimizing images.

1. You need to enter your website domain to connect: Click here !!

2. After entering your page domain it will redirect you to the login to Shopify. Proceed to your store. If you dont have one yet: Get shopify

Shopify Login Screen. Source: Own.

3. You will be redirected to Shopify. Click on install (unlisted) app

4. After installing the Shortpixel App you will see the Dashboard below. The free plan includes 100 images per month. If you need more you can buy a one-time 10000 images for 9.99 $ or monthly 7000 images for only 3.99$. You missed the first step?

5. You can now either click on Bulk compress to compress all images at once. Or if you want to compress only certain images just scroll down where you see a list of all images. Click there on the button to compress just the single image and repeat it for all required images.

6. In case an image does not look good (this really happens rarely.), because of the optimization of Shortpixel. You can just revert it by clicking on the image and reset it to the prior setting.

7. Now after compressing all images. Go back to Google Pagespeed and rerun it to see how your site performs now.

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and it helped you. In case you still need some advice feel free to comment below or contact me: www.huks.digital
