Can Swytch be used for sharing content?

The Logitech Swytch is designed to provide a single cable connection for a BYOD experience. Thes answer depends on how the Swytch is deployed. The Swytch can be deployed in 2 ways, “BYOD-Only” and “Switch to BYOD.” (BYOD=Bring Your Own Device)

BYOD-Only

When deployed as a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) device, connect the Display directly to the “HDMI TV” on the Swytch Hub. Then connect the USB device (e.g., MeetUp, but could be another) to the “USB-A A/V” port on the Swytch Hub.

The Swytch Extender uses a single connection (“Y” cable) to send both HDMI and USB signals. See below:

In the above diagram, MeetUp is used, but other alternatives could be Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini, Rally Plus, Rally, or the Rally Camera.

The Y-shaped cable allows an end-user to connect a personal laptop via the connector on the Y and use the screen, camera, microphone, and speakers of the USB device simultaneously.

Since the BYOD Laptop is also the UC Engine then the Laptop can share content into its meeting as normal and that content will be shown on the screen.

Switch to BYOD

This method allows a room that uses a dedicated room system (such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom Room) to add BYOD functionality for when someone needs to make a call using a platform other than what the dedicated room system is configured.

In the above diagram, MeetUp is used, but other alternatives could be Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini, Rally Plus, Rally, or the Rally Camera.

Also, the Roommate is shown, which is an appliance that can run the Android version of different Platforms like Teams or Zoom, this can be swapped out for a windows-based room computer.

Swytch is used to “take over” or “Hijack” the technology that would otherwise be used for the dedicated room system (e.g. Display, Camera, Mics, and Speakers) and provide that technology to the connected laptop.

In this case, content sharing into the dedicated room system is not available. To share content into the dedicated rooms system, use the HDMI input on the Tap controller instead of the Swytch.
