I’m Frédéric Mabileau. I’m a fourth-generation winemaker in St. Nicolas
de Bourgueil. I have 25 hectares of vines.
Wines and soils
In terms of winemaking, our terroir is quite uniform, as 80% of the soils in St. Nicolas are composed of sand and gravel. The different wines that I produce are in keeping with these different terroirs, notably, our wine ‘Les Rouillères’, which accounts for about 80% of my production.
So, we have a good volume of very fruity, very elegant and very delicate wine.
We use absolutely no machines for harvesting, no weed killers and no chemicals.
Our winegrowing methods have been organic for 12 years, and biodynamic for six years.
Sales and export
Our sales focus today is essentially on the French restaurant trade.
20% of our production is exported. And we would like to make this 50%.
Our business relations for export operate on the same basis as in France. That is to say, they are mostly long term. But, most importantly, we like dealing with people who are passionate about a terroir, or a region.
Especially, we strive through our wines to convey an image of the Loire, of our environment, of our village, of our terroir and of our enthusiasm.
