Born in May

Born in May are vertically straight

green bodies, stylish, silky

monochrome-colored sleeves

wrapped around yellow faces

with thin green material sprouted out

up and down the tall, thin frames.

People look forward to seeing

them bloom and often pick them

and put them at the center of tables

surrounded by conversation

and attention as they are indeed

physically attractive.

I, too, am a child of May,

however, my face is spotted

with freckles and my hair

is a texture similar to woven

material used to pack Thai rice

and my flesh is in the form

of a rather unflattering shape

from head to toe.

I certainly long to look

a lot like my siblings

flowering gracefully

specifically in late in spring.
