Important event information regarding the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

We’ve got an important update regarding upcoming events.

Due to ongoing health concerns regarding the Coronavirus pandemic, we’ve made the unfortunate decision to cancel or postpone a number of upcoming events.

Which events are being cancelled/postponed?

At present we have decided to cancel:

• LFG: Saturday 21 March
• London Gaymers Town Hall: Saturday 28 March
• Welly Friday: Space will continue to be reserved for us but we will not be actively promoting or encouraging attendance to this event.

We’re also postponing some events that we have been organising such as a new gaymer pub quiz event.

We’re still hoping the following LFG will be going ahead, which is on the 25 April, and we’re rescheduling the Town Hall event for as soon as possible.

Why have we come to this decision?

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the developing situation and we’re sure many of you will have been doing the same. In the last few days the WHO declared coronavirus a pandemic and the UK government moved to the ‘delay’ phase of their containment plan, introducing new control measures.

While the world around us is going into lockdown, advising against unessential travel, working from home and recommending avoiding crowds or large groups of people, we felt it would be irresponsible to continue to add to that risk factor by encouraging people to attend in-person events.

The health and wellbeing of everyone in this community is — and always will be — our primary concern. Therefore we feel this is the logical and right thing to do.

What will I do with my free time now!

Don’t worry — while we can’t all meet up in person as easily, we’re lucky we all share a passion that works great online too. We have a thriving discord server where hundreds of gaymers chat and play games together every night, very active guilds and communities on Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, regular Switch online meet ups including an animal crossing special coming up, and we’re planning some additional supplementary online events to compensate for the lack of meet ups including an online video game music quiz, Jackbox game online streams and hopefully an online tournament — more details to follow!

Hopefully you understand why we had to make this decision and aren’t feeling too disappointed. With some perseverance and a little extra caution from us all, we hope things will be back to normal scheduling soon.
