When a little retro games party ends up raising over £1,200 for SpecialEffect 😍

A couple of months ago, Monzo reached out to us and wondered if we wanted to collaborate on running a retro consoles party… the timing was perfect because we were looking for a venue to run a retro consoles party!
London Gaymers and Monzo — perhaps the most ambitious cross-over before Infinity War, but we figured why not… Monzo are a cool brand and it seems that the stars aligned perfectly with us both wanting to plan the same event.
We had originally planned to make the event a shared fundraiser for both LG, and SpecialEffect; but shortly into the planning, recongising how much good work that SpecialEffect does, we decided that they should get as much money as possible.
Fast-forward to a few nights ago and after much planning, Monzo’s cute offices, just off the Silicon Roundabout, were transformed into a mix of consoles from the late 80s right through to the early 00s. We had a couple of nerdy movies, War Games and Hackers, in the main room, a free bar, and more pizza than you can shake a stick at (kindly dontated by Monzo).

A raffle with some generously donated prizes including a frickin XBOX ONE X 😱 spear-headed the fundraising on the night (we literally had to print more raffle tickets).

By the end of the night the total was an estimated total of £1,200 (later confirmed). Hopefully you will agree this is absolutely amazing… and helps contribute to the fantastic work that SpecialEffect do. SpecialEffect’s Community Developer, Stevie Ward, said;
“SpecialEffect are so thankful to Monzo and London Gaymers for all their hard work and support with this amazing Retro Gaming event.
“We have been so lucky to be welcomed into the London Gaymers community, and it’s events like this that can make all the difference for the people we help. We don’t charge for our one-to-one support and we don’t sell anything, so all your donations, large or small, really do count.
“We’re massively grateful for all your kind words, offers of support and for the incredible amount of hard work, creativity and time that goes into making such a brilliant, well organised and friendly event. Thank you!”

We’re so pleased to have been able to make this contribution to SpecialEffect and we hope to work with them again soon! 🤗
