In early January, the Department of Interior released the draft 5-Year plan to open up nearly all of US coastal waters to offshore oil drilling — an 80% increase in area up for lease from the last administration. The vast majority of coastal governors oppose new oil drilling off their states, including California, and nearly 70% of Californians oppose new offshore drilling.

If this plan is successful, it would be the first time there would be new oil leases in nearly 40 years!

There will only be one opportunity for Californians to provide in-person comment on February 8th in Sacramento, despite significant urging from Californian politicians to have multiple public meetings in the coastal communities that would be impacted the most. Come together for a statewide day of action on February 3rd in California to show strong, unified opposition to new offshore oil and gas drilling off the California coastline.
