5 Ways to Tackle Extreme Procrastination
I used these hacks, so it is already been tested.
Look I get it. When you have to choose between — completing an important task or hopping on Social media, you always prefer the second one.
Though you know what needs to be done, you may still prefer pleasure over completing your daily tasks. Until you become aware you already spent hours on your favorite social media app, it will be hard to stop procrastinating. It is time to stop procrastinating and finish those great tasks today and I am here to help.
Because telling yourself, “you’ll do it tomorrow…” Well, that tomorrow never comes.
Most of us are like that. Up to a certain level, it is acceptable but when it gets too hard or goes too extreme then that is actually the time to take it under control.
Now, there are a lot of tips available on the internet. Where some of them are useful, some are actually not. But the 5 rules/techniques I am sharing today are surely going to give outcomes irrespective of the person.
Here are the five points:
1. Refueling the mind
We work to live, not the opposite. And as human beings, we need rest from our work to recharge us. Results will be wonderful and we will become double productive and creative in our work. Especially if your work is in the creative field then rest is a must need.
This is why when you feel like procrastinating, take a break. Maybe go outside, walk a bit, chat with friends or family and refresh your mood.
2. Going from hard to light
This is probably my favorite. See my whole day consists of many tasks. Some of them are hard and some of them are not. My main intention is to always finish up the harder tasks first and make way for the lighter tasks at the end of the day (as my energy starts to drop).
But whenever I feel too much procrastinating about a harder task, I simply move to a lighter one. This gives my mind a momentary relief. Also, I like to finish with the task that gives me a sense of accomplishment. When I do this, it usually generates more energy for me to tackle the harder task.
3. Cycle
Nature has the power to heal. It also has the power to give you creativity. Trust me I mean it. Almost every single time whenever I see myself procrastinating about life, work, money, the future, or anything I simply go outside. Sometimes I prefer alone and sometimes I go with friends.
Now, as I have a great love for riding I always prefer cycling over walking. I would recommend cycling. But, if you love walking go for it. The whole point is all about getting your lazy butt outside of your house.
4. Escape from the reality
Your body needs rest, and so does your mind. In order to function properly, your body needs sleep. And sleep cures procrastination, believe it or not?
When you procrastinate your mind becomes so busy on crap it needs to calm down to get some relief. And what can be a better option than sleep to do this job better?
Prefer taking naps when you over-procrastinate. Give the mind rest and start fresh (with a clear mind). Sleep will be your escape from reality.
This is what I say before going to bed when I am too tense.
Whatever happens, will happen. Let me get a small nap in first.
5. Making an environment to vibe
See the previous rules I told you are for the non-urgent tasks. Now, what if the task that you have on your table is important and needed to be done ASAP?
This is where the last and final tip will help you out.
See we all have an environment where our working proficiency doubles up. For instance, I work better when it is a bit dark and there is no noise or maybe I put on my headphones and listen to lo-fi beats.
Probably you have some too.
When you procrastinate too much, make the best use of these tips. Create that environment around you, maybe do a little bit of breathing exercise (click here), and set your mood to focus and deep work.
