SDG 6 stands for Sustainable Development Goal 6, which is one of the 17 goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. SDG 6 aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The targets for SDG 6 include: By 2030,

  1. Achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all

2. Attain access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation

3. Expand international cooperation and capacity-building support to developing countries in water and sanitation activities which includes water harvesting, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling, and reuse technologies

Impact of SDG 6 :

1. Human health: Access to clean water, and adequate sanitation and hygiene are essential for human health. Lack of access to these can lead to the spread of waterborne diseases, which can be deadly

2. Equity: To ensure universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation facilities is important because it is a basic human right, and lack of access disproportionately affects vulnerable populations

3. Economic development: Water is a vital resource for economic development. SDG 6 promotes the sustainable use of water resources, which can support economic growth and improve living standards for communities in developing countries.

From local solutions to global actions, companies are using innovations and partnerships to address SDG 6 and Loocafé is one of them. It contributes to SDG 6 by providing public washrooms to stop open defecation, Wastewater recycling systems, and Rainwater harvesting structure to use water in an efficient way.

Achieving the targets will help ensure that everyone has access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, and that water resources are managed sustainably to support economic and social development while protecting the environment.
