You’re Consuming Too Much Protein

Problem: Too much protein intake

DO: Consume the equivalent of your bodyweight in protein. i.e 160lb man consumes give or take 160 grams of protein.

WHY: Seriously. You’re reading too many bodybuilding magazines to realize that the amount of protein that they’re recommending is ABSURD. When you realize that the body can only physiologically absorb so much, you’ll come to realize why 2 TIMES your bodyweight in protein can sound naive. Your body can only process a certain number of proteins a day. Overfeeding it will only make you fatter.

Think of it like this… If you had a construction team to rebuild your house with bricks and each day they were given a specific amount, anything left over will be discarded. If the construction team can only use 160 bricks a day, what happens if I provide them with 320 bricks a day. That means they can’t use the extra 160 bricks I provided and will therefore be discarded.

Now when I say discarded, I mean that there’s a huge garbage dump that the bricks will be thrown into. That means it’s 160 EXTRA items the garbage truck will need to throw.

Do you see where I’m getting at?

Some may even go as far as saying it is the amount of LEAN BODY MASS that you’ll need to consume. Ignore all that stuff for now. Here’s my reasoning: I’m going to assume you’re a martial artist here alright big guy? If we’re going to be punching people in the face and running around the entire time, we’ll need adequate recovery.

Consuming bodyweight in protein leaves us a good amount of protein to work with here on days where you may be doing a higher level of intensity vs a lower level of intensity.
