Looking Back: Heavy Metal

New Wave of British Heavy Metal at its finest.

You probably remember where you were when you first heard The Number of The Beast, let alone Iron Maiden. The baddest motherfuckin’ band that would kick your ass with Dave Murray’s and Adrian Smith’s crushing guitar solos and pierce your ears with the legendary voice of one of the greatest frontmen in heavy metal…ever, Bruce Dickenson. You probably thought that Killers was extremely hard to follow and that these guys don’t have the skills to follow up with an equal good or better album, until these guys whipped out their musical dicks and slapped you across the face with The Number of the Beast.

Listen at your own risk

With speed from the guitar playing of Adrian Smith and Dave Murray, and the high-pitched vocals of the legendary Bruce Dickenson, The Number of the Beast proved to be a monumental album, not just in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, but in Heavy Metal in general. Many songs within this album has been staples within the brotherhood of heavy metal fans, and also have proved to be an influence on many big name bands, such as the Big 4 of Thrash, and many bands in the crossover community, such as Biohazard and Agnostic Front.

In order for an album to be legendary and extremely memorable are the songs that are included, and The Number of the Beast has an abundance of them. With hits such as the title track, Invaders, Run to the Hills, and Hollowed Be Thy Name, Iron Maiden solidified themselves as the frontrunners of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and legends in the world of Heavy Metal.

With an album like The Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden, in some people’s opinions, was able to dethrone the kings of British Heavy Metal (Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath), musically dickslap bands and fans alike, and solidified themselves as legends within the world of Metal.

“All Hail Iron fuckin’ Maiden!”
