Looking Up will no longer be publishing on Medium

Since launching in November 2013, Looking Up has published a lot of great pieces of writing.

We’ve written articles about colonising the clouds of Venus, why India needs to go to Mars, Galileo’s forgotten failure, the heroic dogs that paved the way for humans in space, the planets on the far reaches of our solar system, the routes we’ll take to colonise other worlds, the international space situation caused by Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, attempts to shoot guns into space, how to ride a nuclear bomb into orbit, and what terminal velocity feels like, among many others.

But sadly, Medium has chosen not to renew our contract. It’s understandable — there are other fantastic collections on the site that occupy similar territory to ours (you should definitely check out the Physics arXiv Blog and Starts With A Bang). We’ve enjoyed being a part of the Medium community tremendously, and it’s a wonderful place to write.

Unfortunately, it also means there will no longer be any more writing published in the Looking Up collection on Medium. If you enjoyed the articles, then thankyou for reading. If you enjoyed them and run a blog network, we’d love to hear from you — email the editor, Duncan Geere.

We’ll leave you with one final request. Clear your mind, then go over to the nearest window and look up at the sky for a few moments. Look at the clouds, or stars. Remember that humanity occupies just a razor-thin sliver of the surface of a single planet in a single solar system in a single galaxy in an impossibly large universe. There is so much left to see.
