A Night In A Museum

Moonbeam shadows in the dark
Ferreting around empty corridors
for mossy laughters caged
within browning glass moulds
seeking refuge in dusty portraits
— a yawning museum display
of life left standing still as unfinished art
Its abstraction of played-out words
clinging to the night and its lonely musk
in the scent of an overripe strawberry
Its lush seeds spilling uncoaxed
Unhinged on the verge of decay
Sweating puddles of moist dreams
The drip-drip of tears and sleep slipping,
Emptying into the sterile steel
of a kitchen sink — its stark-staring hole
without the holler of heaped plates
The hunger in their skin, teeth
bitten away into truths heavy as stone
Forever sent crashing smacked
Into a shrill mess of a heartbreak.
