Adults Playing Dodgeball
A Poem
I was at the gym the other day
and looked up toward the TVs
to deflect the awkwardness
of looking right at people
across from you while you
are both working out on
standardized machines,
and when I did, I saw
adults playing dodgeball
Everything changed in
that singular moment
because I realized that
I could literally do
absolutely anything
that I wanted to,
and even if it didn’t pay
there might be a league
that I could play in
and be on TV
A few things came to mind:
Underwater basket weaving
Snot rockets for distance
Quiet reading by yourself
Brooklyn stoop ball
I mean, they made a movie
called Baseketball and
for some reason, I didn’t
think of turning my hobbies
into televised leagues
and now I am very sad
about it and will stop at
nothing to make this
a stalwart reality
