Alone on a dark beach at night
A vanishing atoll in the vastness
Lulled by gentle laps of waves
Murmurs of a mammoth slosh
Distant screeches of sea birds
(Are they seagulls at night?)
And both my girls so far away

The shadowy wisp of our galaxy
Sprawled majestic across the ink
I have so longed to see you again
The star-speckled night revealed
The wind, the wind, sea breeze
The mighty bellow of sailing ships
Now caressing my face, my soul
Into a deep and distant slumber
Of gin and wine and elderflower

Time has no definition, no purpose
An instant and a duration meld
Into a singular sense, sensing
Gazing endlessly at the stars
As they gaze back at you, asking
“Are you in a hurry to go anywhere?”
The week ends, the weekend begins
Betwixt the two, the silence
