Antibodies
A Poem

Maybe when they test me for antibodies,
They’ll see whether I’m immune,
Or just numb.
I’ve had enough
of divisiveness,
Long, unproductive, cringeworthy years and a day,
Until I hear these muted voices raised.
I want cohesion,
I want an adhesive strong enough to mend what’s broken,
I want to let go long enough,
that I can take a deep breath and gain strength
from the sound of my exhale.
Until it is time to tuck in the sky
and kiss the stars good night.
Then wake to embrace the morning sun.
This is all I want.
