The title of a book I read in college
When your heart breaks
Do you call your doctor and
Ask him to place a stethoscope
On your chest?
No
You turn on your
Favorite feel-good flick
For good ole catharsis
Letting tears fall where they may
When a loved one leaves this earth
Do you call a lawyer to
Debate the unfairness
Of death?
No
You find a quiet room and
Listen to that album
You played on repeat
Your last weekend together
When the world feels like
It’s ending
Do you ask an engineer or architect
To build you another one?
No
You escape into your favorite
Book, play, TV series, comedy show
And find solace knowing
The sun will rise again
I wish those who
Cling to the STEMs,
Who dismiss the artists
Living in their children
Could see the ways
They’ve been saved
And finally give credit
Where it’s due
