Bastion

I am a bastion of mindfulness
or so I like to tell myself
when I am tired of scrolling
on the tiny computer in my hand
I am a bastion of minimalism
expect on the days when I find
three separate Amazon packages
stacked against my front door
I am a bastion of modernism,
but prefer the word contemporary
because it seems more relaxed and
less like an Anish Kapoor sculpture
I am a bastion of micro-marketing
which is another way of saying
that I’m not particularly eager
to build email lists or splash pages
I am a bastion of self-awareness
or so I like to tell myself
when I am looking in the mirror
and staring into my mortality
