Cave’s Shadow

Gaslight flickers
in caverns
where victims
are accused
monsters, trapped
in the lying
memory
of truth’s shadow.
Self-delusion
shatters reality,
a malignant
sledgehammer to
aspiration.

Truth’s
disinfecting light
beams just outside
the cave, like
dawn breaking
mountaintops,
a benevolent
breakthrough
waiting
for those who
shatter
their shaded
shackles.

The person
you love is in there,
waiting to
break free.
