You come back to me
In glimpses of color and light
A reflection bouncing off
My side mirror

I squint and lean forward
As my heart skips a beat
Only to be met with
My own reflection

I walk through the cactus
A mirage plays tricks on me
As I whip ‘round to the sound
Of a man singing

But I am alone on this trail
Isn’t this what I wanted?
Now I long to see your
Kind brown eyes, ripped tee

“The grass is always greener”
Not when you live in a desert
Surrounded by roads and dreams
Paved over with concrete

I long for the forest
I long for you
