if you have anything to say…

if you have to say anything
now
let it not be contrived, thoughtful
well-planned
calculated

let it not be a thing softened
a lump of butter
cringing at impact

let it be visceral
have claws
and wrest itself from your chest
tearing your larynx
in its daring escape

let it run the risk of strangling us both
with earnest tentacles
let it fall to the floor
and slither away
unburdened

if you have to say anything
now
please let it be real
