Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

In 2027, the year of Bewilderment,

The bible was rewritten,
so that the apple was never bitten,
Cain showed Abel most brotherly love,
and there was no deluge for forty days and forty nights,
all historical reference erased from the pages, scrolled in invisible ink,
And blasphemy was pronounced on any one of the dissidents.

In 2028, a proclamation came upon the land,

That every statue and every monument,
every oracle that twisted words at dawn,
every golden ox designed by human hands,
made of metal, wood, clay or papier mache,
would be torn down immediately,
posthaste,
for they represented the very worst in taste,
animal, vegetable, or mineral.

Further, it was proclaimed
that selfies would be banned,
Those photogenic odes to self-love
Would get no further press.

Would you choose instead,
An ode to self-loath?
Wherein lies the sense?

And thus, the age of Bewilderment.
