It Starts With The Little Things

It always starts with the little things.

It’s the little things that shape a life,
and make a home,
and forge the building blocks of a relationship,
and a marriage,
and a career that withstands decades.

Little things like taking the time to pour into your soul,
just as much as you pour into your work,
and the lives of the ones you love.

Little things like pausing before you speak,
and remembering that everyone has a story
that you cannot see,
and that success does not come
without dedication and discipline.

Little things like slowing down long enough
to taste your morning coffee,
and pay attention to the
sunlight streaming through your kitchen windows,
and noticing how your beloved’s laugh
is your most favorite sound
in the whole wide world.

It’s easy to think that the sparkly bits of a life
are somehow spun from fairytales,
and luck,
and the stuff that movies are made of,
but it’s the big things that we revere,
and adore,
and admire,
that always start with the little things.
