offering
what do you give the sky?

my prayer is heat
curling over my ankles
reaching up from summer dirt
between raindrops
serving as my tears
your answer is thunder
the raindrops tremble
before your uncertainty
splatters over squash leaves
wide green umbrellas on stilts
I find a piece of horsehair pottery
on the side of the road
bring it home
smash it on the stone
porch of my house
there’s your offering
